LIGHT Partnership saw institutionalized HIV positive teenagers, leaving orphanages and entering the workforce. Blindsided by hard labor and the stresses of life, their health and spirits were in steep decline. We also saw a solution: offer life skills and vocational training in a nurturing environment.
LIGHT Partnership is a 501(c)(3) that addresses the gap in support for teenagers aging out of orphanage and foster care systems. Our work started with one volunteer in one HIV/AIDS orphanage in South India. Today we have expanded our vision to providing co-op housing, vocational and life-skills training, and bridges to higher education for marginalized children internationally. LIGHT Partnership also runs mentor programs for at-risk or transition-aged school children in local US communities.
We are based in Atlanta, Georgia, is managed by a small group of committed volunteers. We view all of our benefactors and beneficiaries equally: as partners with a meaningful and unique purpose. Our end goal is not to put “food on a plate” but to effect the lives of both the giver and the receiver. We strive to empower young adults to become outstanding, educated members of their respective societies and to cultivate creativity, confidence and lasting relationships.
If we are to teach real peace in this world, and if we are to carry on a real war against war, we shall have to begin with the children. -Mahatma Gandhi.
